Welcome to San Augustine Texas!
“Windows into History: San Augustine” is an artistic three-dimensional tour of San Augustine, Texas’ rich history conceived and created by local Artists, Artisans and Historians. Known as the “Cradle of Texas”, San Augustine’s history comes to life as dioramas and exhibits around town. Anywhere from 18 to 26 different exhibits are on display at any one time. Accompanying the displays are QR codes that connect the viewer to videos produced by local citizens, easily accessible with your smart phone.
“Windows into History: San Augustine” is a City of San Augustine Main Street project, funded by donations and grants
The concept for “Windows into History” was developed after a successful Christmas season window decorating project that paired unoccupied windows in the downtown with civic groups and individuals to light up the town. The popular result led to a plan to fill the under-utilized windows with something meaningful the rest of the year. The result has brought the community together with a display of pride in the local history, from major historical events to personal stories. Come visit San Augustine to see what we’ve done, and if you’d like to try this in your town, contact us and we’ll share our trials and triumphs with you.
